A Men’s Shed plays an important role in the prevention of social isolation and the promotion of positive health and wellbeing amongst men by providing a safe, friendly and welcoming place for men to work on meaningful projects and contribute to their community.

From humble beginnings in Newcastle, the driving force behind the Australian Men’s Shed movement – and at its heart – is the Australian Men’s Shed Association. The Australian Men’s Shed Association (AMSA) is the peak support and development body for Men’s Sheds across Australia, and leads the international development of Men’s Sheds across the world.

At AMSA’s conception (2007) less than 50 pioneering Men’s Sheds were in operation. Since that time AMSA has nurtured the development of Men’s Sheds nationally – and internationally – on the premise of reducing social isolation and improving mens’ health by bringing men together to facilitate positive lifestyle choices and connecting communities.

AMSA’s vision is to connect communities for better male wellbeing and health. The organisation operates on the principle of sharing information for the establishment and ongoing sustainability of Men’s Sheds. For every man, and his shed.
