A community research project to explore and learn about the service experiences and needs of women who are homeless and sleeping rough. The aim is to speak to up to 20 women in recorded individual conversations. The consent process is more than signing a consent form. It includes check-ins by the researchers at intervals during conversations.
We decided to conduct this project because of the low number of women guests in the Women’s Carparking Pilot Project (April – June 2024).
The aim is to improve service access, quality, and impact for women who are homeless. Findings from this project will inform future homelessness support and services as well as housing initiatives by Embrace People & Place and other services that focus on women, homelessness, and housing.
We also want to learn about the needs of lived experience/community researchers in terms of support during research and developing research skills.
Women who are sleeping rough in Newcastle have been invited to have conversations about their service experiences. Advertisements for recruitment were sent via local women’s homelessness and housing services.
The researchers and leads on this project are the Women’s Advocate and a Project Worker from Embrace People & Place. They are two women with lived experiences of different systems and vulnerabilities. They conduct the recorded conversations and analyse and report on the stories that they hear. They are supported by the Partnerships & Impact Manager from Embrace People & Place who provides supervision and skill development.
We’re still collecting stories. Watch this space for what we learn.
